Is it possible to tune my kalimba to play base notes?
The kalimbas in the video start out with a low note of middle C... and can tuned that down to like A or G below middle C... which is not bass notes, sorry. Options: (a) the Hugh Tracey Alto kalimba normally comes with a low note of G belpw middle C... I can tune thqat down to C an octave below middle C... which is in the baratone range. (b) You can get an octave doubler (effects box) which will drop the octave for you... and (c) check out the "rhumba box" or the "marimbula" - when kalimba technology arrived in the Caribbean, people made bass kalimbas, and some of the early Calypso music had the marimbula as the bass notes.

I wonder what you mean "Evil tunings" Cuz i thought your going to tune it in Locrian or Dorian
Evil tuning is the kalimba tuning Maurice White of EWF used and popularized in EWF's song "Evil." It's a pentatonic scale with 3 redundant notes, so you can rapidly repeat those notes (trill) since you can use both thumbs. White is the world's most well-known kalimba player and Evil was the song that really introduced the kalimba to many westerners. Along with EWF's videos, check out the Kalimbamagic video featuring the Evil tuned alto.

Robert - FIrst, I've been play for 38 years. SO, speed comes with time, Start out as slow as brain speed... once you get something short that sounds good, practice it, play it over and over, and you will get faster. Do you have this kalimba?

So what tuning do you recommend to use? I guess you can only play certain songs with a certain way of tuning right? I recently bought a kalimba witch is tuned in a even different way: #C, bB, #F, bE, B, bA, E, #C, B, bE, #fF, bB, #C, E, bA, B, bE I want to play fun simple known songs. Should I leave it like it is or change it to, for example, CDEFGAB?

How can i make that sound with a flat board kalimba?😢
... you can't really. You can get a slight dopler shift by playing some notes and waving it around here and there... but that is not very strong and a quite different effect. OR if you have a pickup on your board mounted kalimba, you can get an electronic wahwah.

Never knew they were tuned to chords, or tuneable. Lovely sound. Also, love the 'effects' when you bring the kalimba near the table surface and back. I think I assumed they were just a major scale.
